The Bishop/Special Crimes Unit series

Timeline

Each trilogy takes place within, roughly, the space of a year, regardless of when the individual titles were/are published. This is not real time, but 'book' or 'story' time — something I chose, quite frankly, so as not to age my characters too quickly. After all, if a series goes on for quite a few years — and I hope this one does — some of our favorite characters could easily reach retirement age before any of us are ready to see them go!

Which is why I chose to tinker with time and allow my characters to age more slowly than the rest of us. To show you what I mean, and beginning (arbitrarily, just as example) with the baseline year 2000:

Stealing Shadows: February, 2000
Hiding in the Shadows: October-November, 2000
Out of the Shadows: January, 2001

Touching Evil: November, 2001
Whisper of Evil: March, 2002
Sense of Evil: June, 2002

Hunting Fear: September, 2002
Chill of Fear: April, 2003
Sleeping With Fear: July, 2003

Blood Dreams: October, 2003

Yes, CHILL OF FEAR is published in the summer of 2005, and SLEEPING WITH FEARin 2006, but the events in the stories take place only a few months apart.

I realize this is tricky to understand, which is why I decided to include this page on the site. Because of the flashback prologues in HUNTING FEAR and CHILL OF FEAR (and the flashbacks in SLEEPING WITH FEAR) some readers have expressed confusion over the fact that in these scenes Bishop had either not yet found his Miranda — or appeared to be searching for a different woman entirely!

Sorry for the confusion. All the flashbacks to date (through the FEAR trilogy) take place at a point when Bishop was still building his Special Crimes Unit, and had not yet found Miranda — or, prior to the events in OUT OF THE SHADOWS. I hope that's a bit clearer!

I try to make references in the stories to events occurring in a previous book and note that those events took place only a few months before, but I know that sort of detail is easy to miss, especially in a first reading.

As always, if you have questions, please do get in touch.
